A Keaney Blue Bloodline

Connor Froberg ’27 bleeds Keaney Blue. His father and his uncle played soccer here. His mother attended URI. Growing up in Jamestown, he watched URI basketball and soccer from the sidelines. Now he’s fulfilling his dream as a member of the URI soccer team.

Connor Froberg playing soccer“I always loved URI and a big part of my choice to attend was the fact I was chosen to be on the soccer team,” said Froberg. “I committed very early so I could play soccer here.

“During my first year, I loved every second of it. The soccer team is very competitive and time consuming, but I feel like the guys on the team are a second family. It has also taught me how to balance my time well.”

Froberg majors in finance and is considering a second major in accounting, economics, or management.

“I knew I wanted to study finance after a course I took in high school. I like how the College of Business makes students gain a basic understanding of general business before we focus on our major. It helps to be exposed to topics other than your major.

“I have found the professors here to be very helpful. Some classes can be huge, and I was concerned that professors wouldn’t care about students. From my experience, no matter how large the class is, professors are very willing to help when I reach out to them.”

Balancing his courses with soccer practices and games leaves little time for a part-time job.

“Receiving a scholarship was crucial to my family and me and has made paying for college less stressful,” said Froberg. “Playing soccer is a big time commitment and the scholarships make that doable. I also think I have matured during my first year. In high school, I procrastinated a lot, but at URI I find myself finishing work before the deadlines and it is higher quality. I can see it in my grades.”

Keaney Blue runs in his family. And Froberg wears it proudly.
